CNC Controller Case

The case I used for the FluidNC CNC Controller based upgrade for my CNC Router. See the BOM for details. CAD for the case panels and other project files are located on the company github.

All the panels are power coated steel, not aluminum. The white colored frame on the front and back is plastic. There are steel braces running front to back to connect the plastic frames. Overall a heavy duty case that I would use again. I have other sizes of the same case that I have used for other projects and am happy with all of them. I think I would prefer thicker aluminum for the panels because it’s easier to machine, drill, etc but the steel is definitely rigid. The back panel of the controller has 20 12-16mm holes for the connectors placed close together. That would not have worked on aluminum unless it was several mm thick.

I changed it to sit upright on the side for a more PC type position for a smaller footprint. The original top part of the case is ‘U’ shaped and included top and vented sides. I cut the top leaving only the sides with a small 3mm lip. Then I cut a piece of thin acrylic for the side panel with a 80mm PC cooling fan. I found a handy cooling fan cover with a removable filter that works great.

I ended up replacing the vented top (previous side) panel with a solid piece of aluminum because I didn’t want the vents there and putting tape over it would look bad.
