Trashy CNC Debris Protection

I spent so much money on trying to add accordion bellows style debris protection to my CNC Router like I have on my metal lathes. Only to end up using trash bags instead. I’ve been using the trash bag thing on the X axis for about 6 months with great success. I couldn’t find a way to fit the very expensive accordion bellows style material I was using on the Y axes so out of desperation I used some large trash bag material. I tried some other thick plastic sheet first but it didn’t compact very well when at the very ends of the axis. I had these large 50gal trash bags from HomeDepot that I thought would never last but ended up working great. For the X axis, I just used a special tape for plastic underfloor sheeting. Regular tape doesn’t stick to the trash bag very well.

When I finally gave up on the accordion bellows covers for the Y axis and decided to go with trash bags, I thought I would upgrade and add Velcro to allow for partial, or complete, removal for maintenance. Who knew Velcro is so expensive! Worth it though in this case. However, I quickly noticed that even the super sticky backing on the Velcro wouldn’t stick to the garbage bag plastic. I had some adhesive primer that I got from Aliexpress that I tried out. It worked great for making the Velcro stick but was an issue because it caused the plastic bag to crinkle and draw up. Quick fix was to use some painters tape to secure down the edge of the plastic to the work table. I only covered about 2-3mm of the bag but that was enough to hold it down while I applied the primer. The primer dries in a few seconds and ready to attach the Velcro. HUGE difference in adhesion after the primer! Don’t even get the Velcro near the plastic bag where the primer was applied or it will stick FOREVER! Then just remove the tape and do the other side using the same strip of tape.
